드니프로 ( 우크라이나語 : Дн?про , 文化語 : 드네쁘르) 市는 우크라이나 중남부에 位置한 都市로 드니프로페트로우스크週 의 州都이며 人口는 979,046名(2015年 基準)이다. 키이우 , 하르키우 에 이어 우크라이나에서 3番째로 큰 都市이며 드니프로江 沿岸에 있다.

工業 都市로 重工業이 主要 産業이다. 드네프르 江 下流에 位置한 자포리자 와 함께 제철, 코크스 化學, 機械 工業의 中心地이다. [1]

이 地方에서 確認되고 있는 人間의 痕跡은 15萬年 前으로 거슬러 올라간다. 여러 民族의 交叉路였고, 1世紀부터 슬라브人이 살게 되었다. 9世紀 에 여기에서 크리스트교가 傳해졌고 修道院이 지어졌지만, 1240年에 타타르人에 破壞되었다. 타타르人의 勢力이 이 地方에 펴질 무렵에는, 드니프로江 의 東쪽에 타타르人, 西海岸에 슬라브人이 對峙했고 12世紀에 코자크 가 이 地域을 勢力 下에 둘 때까지 對峙 狀態가 繼續되었다.

16世紀부터 18世紀까지는 폴란드-리투아니아 聯邦 , 오스만 帝國 , 러시아 帝國 勢力의 角逐地가 되었다. 最終的으로 러시아 帝國令으로 包含되었고, 1775年 都市가 建設되었다. 當時의 이름은 러시아 帝國의 皇帝였던 예카테리나 2歲 의 이름을 따서 예카테리盧슬라프 ( 러시아語 : Екатеринослав , 우크라이나語 : Катеринослав 카테리老슬라우 [ * ] , "예카테리나의 榮光"이라는 意味)라고 했다. 러시아 革命 後에는 드니프로페트로우스크 ( 우크라이나語 : Дн?пропетровськ , 러시아語 : Днепропетро?вск 드네프로페트롭스크 [ * ] , 文化語 : 드네쁘로뻬뜨롭스크)로 改稱되었다. 2016年 5月에 脫共産化 過程에서 現在 이름으로 改名되었다.

第2次 世界 大戰 以後에는 蘇聯의 原子力 , 軍需産業 , 宇宙 開發 의 戰略的 據點으로 여겨졌기 때문에 閉鎖 都市 로 남아 있었다. 우크라이나의 代表的인 工業의 中心地이며 드니프로 出身의 企業家가 大部分 우크라이나 政治에 進出했다. 그 中에는 레오니드 쿠치마 , 율리야 티모셴코 等이 있다.
