오랜 歲月 동안 에린은 셀 수 없이 많은
氏族
單位의 領土 乃至
小王國
들(
투어虛
라고 한다)로 나뉘어 있었다. 이들 투어허는 資源 獲得을 위해 抗爭하면서 成長과 衰退를 反復했다. 그리고 이 투어허들을 諸侯國으로 부리는

노르만인의 侵攻 以後 아일랜드섬의 大部分은
아일랜드 領地
에 歸屬되었으나 一部 地域은 게일界 王朝의 支配를 維持했다. 1350年 노르만인의 支配가 弱化되기 始作하자 "
게일의 再起
"가 일어났고 1500年이 되면
아일랜드 議會
의 影響力이 維持되는 곳은
안 팔

一帶)만 남게 되었다. 1541年 잉글랜드의
헨리 8歲
가
아일랜드 王國
을 建國과 自身이 그 國王임을 宣布하고
아일랜드 征服
을 開始했다. 잉글랜드는
멜리폰트 條約
의 遵守를 拒否했고 그 結果
伯爵들의 逃避
가 發生, 게일界 君主들이 아일랜드섬을 支配하던 時代는 完全히 끝나게 되었다.
