極樂鳥자리 엡실론 (ε Aps)은 南半球 밤하늘 極樂鳥자리 方向으로 보이는 恒星 이다. 이 별의 겉보기 等級은 5.06으로 [3] 밤하늘에서 맨눈으로 보일 程度이다. 時差 資料에 따르면 이 별까지의 距離는 640光年이다. [2]

分光型 은 B3 V로 [6] 中心核에서 水素를 태워 에너지로 바꿔 放出하는, 무거운 B型 主系列星 이다. 엡실론별은 太陽보다 6倍 더 무겁고 [4] 半지름은 太陽의 4倍 程度이다. [9] 밝기는 太陽의 1,614倍 程度이며 [4] 崔外郭層 大氣의 有效 溫度 는 17,050 켈빈이다. [4] 이 程度 溫度에서 우리 눈에는 이 별이 靑白色 빛을 뿜는 것처럼 보인다. [10]

엡실론별은 猛烈하게 回轉하고 있는데 그 速度는 1秒에 255킬로미터로 우리 太陽의 秒當 約 2킬로미터에 比하면 128倍나 빠른 速度이다. [8] 엡실론별은 카시오페이아자리 감마型 變光星 으로 [11] 밝기가 4.99에서 5.04 사이로 變한다. [12]

極樂鳥자리의 中國式 名稱은 ‘이작’( 異雀 , Yi Que , ‘異國的인 새’라는 意味임)이며 이 별자리를 構成하는 代表的인 항성으로는 極樂鳥자리 엡실론, 제타 , 요타 , 베타 , 감마 , 델타 , 델타1 , 에타 , 알파 가 있다. 엡실론별의 名稱은 ‘이작구’( 異雀九 , Yi Que ji? , 裏作의 아홉 番째 별)이다. [13]
