에서 태어났다. 13歲의 나이에 美國으로 移民하였으나, 平生 헝가리語 抑揚으로 말했다고 한다.
일리노이 大學校
에서 數學 및 哲學 複數 專攻으로 3年만에 19歲의 나이에 學事 學位를 授與받았다. 以後 哲學 碩士 過程을 始作하였으나, 試驗에 落第하여 代身 數學으로 專攻을 바꾸었고, 1938年에 博士 學位를 授與받았다.
