뉴어크 ( 英語 : Newark )는 美國 東北部 뉴저지州 에 있는 都市이다. 人口 277,140(2010). 뉴저지州 의 東北部, 에식스群 의 郡廳所在地이며, 뉴욕 의 衛星 都市 이다. 뉴저지州 內의 最大 都市이며, 뉴욕의 衛星 都市 中에서도 人口가 가장 많다. 뉴욕의 맨해튼 , 스태튼아일랜드 와 接하는 뉴어크 萬 에 면하는 港口 都市이다.

1666年 建設되었으며, 18世紀 後半부터 各種 工業이 發達하면서 그 이름이 널리 알려지게 되었다. 뉴욕의 發展과 함께 이 都市로 크게 發展하였고, 港口도 整備되어 뉴욕 抗議 役割을 分擔하게 되었다. 只今도 다양한 種類의 製造業이 發達되어 있다. 한便 이 都市에서 美國에서 保險會社 가 가장 먼저 創設되어 保險 의 都市로도 알려져 있으며, 特히 푸르덴셜 保險 이 有名하다.

뉴욕의 맨해튼과는 허드슨江의 수저(水底) 터널로 連結되어 [1] 여러 個의 鐵道 , 地下鐵 , 버스 路線이 隨時로 運行되어 交通이 便利하다. 이 都市에 있는 뉴어크 리버티 國際空港 은 존 F. 케네디 國際空港 , 라課디어 空港 (以上 뉴욕 4空港)과 함께 뉴욕을 代表하는 重要한 空港이다.

그러나 이 都市는 周邊에 또다시 많은 衛星都市가 생기면서, 生活與件이 惡化되었다. 이로 인하여 白人 들은 이 都市를 떠나게 되었고, 黑人 人口의 比重이 높아져서 住民 中 折半 以上이 黑人이다. 人種 問題도 深刻하여, 1967年에는 大規模 黑人暴動이 일어나기도 했다. 犯罪도 頻發하여, 美國의 都市 中에서 犯罪率이 相當히 높은 危險한 都市로 알려져 있다.

이와 같이 生活與件의 惡化와 犯罪로 어려움을 겪고 있으나, 이 都市는 뉴저지 州의 最大都市로 예로부터 다양한 文化施設을 갖추고 있어 뉴욕 郊外의 重要한 中心地로서의 地位를 維持하고 있다. 州立 럿거스 大學校 , 가톨릭系 私立 시턴홀 大學校 는 높은 硏究 成果로 有名하며, 여러 個의 圖書館 과 博物館 도 있다.

뉴어크를 緣故로 하는 프로스포츠팀으로 NHL 아이스하키의 뉴저지 데블스 가 있다.
