Avery Brundage ( / ? e? v r i ? b r ? n d ? d? / ; September 28, 1887 ? May 8, 1975) was the fifth President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 1952 to 1972. He was born in Detroit , Michigan .

Brundage died in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , West Germany on May 8, 1975 from complications of surgery, aged 87. He is buried at Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago .
