阿貝爾?最初是 索菲斯·李 在1899年建議設立，因?他得悉 阿爾弗雷德·諾貝爾 計劃中的 ?項 不包括數學?。可是索菲斯·李不久後逝世，打斷了設立工作。1902年， 尼?斯·亨利克·阿?? 一百周年?辰，國王 奧斯?二世 嘗試設立阿貝爾?但也不成功。三年後 瑞典－?威聯盟 的 解體 更正式終止了籌備工作 ^[7] 。

國際數學聯盟 指定2000年?「世界數學年」，設立阿貝爾?的計劃在翌年再度重?。 ^[8] 。 ?威政府 在聽取由學者組成的工作小組的建議後，?款2? ?威克朗 作????金，?決定在翌年，尼?斯·亨利克·阿??二百周年?辰之時開始頒發 ^[9] 。

提名準則及過程 [ ?? ]
