I never thought the day would come! We've been writing about this film,
Jack and Diane
, for years, ever since Olivia Thirlby told us about it
back in 2007
. She's not even in it anymore and various young actresses have become attached off and on, but this coming-of-age "wildly original love story" is finally shot and in post-production, and news hit today that it got a distributor, too.
Anne Thompson
and
The Playlist
both reported that
Magnolia Pictures
picked up
Jack and Diane
for distribution. The film stars
Juno Temple
and
Riley Keough
as Diane and Jack, two lesbian teenage girls but it turns out one of them is a werewolf.
The official synopsis is thus:
Jack and Diane are two teenage girls who meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously, quickly striking up a passionate love affair. But when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week, she tries to push her away. Diane struggles to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire is giving her monster-like visions.
In addition to Temple and Keough, the cast includes Kylie Minogue, Jena Malone, Cara Seymour, Neal Huff and Leo Fitzpatrick. A Magnolia exec called the film, written and directed by
Bradley Rust Gray
, a "wildly original love story that blew us away." I have been very curious to see this ever since we
first
wrote about it.
That photo at the top is actually a new "first look" as revealed by
The Playlist
, but it's hardly much to look at. However, that site did also reveal that stop-animation artists the
Brothers Quay
will providing animated sequences for the film. Wait - what?! This entire premise already seems intriguing to me, but now knowing that it will animated sequences as well just takes it to a whole other level. My interest is definitely piqued, now Magnolia just needs to set the release date and start releasing posters and promo material.
Stay tuned!
