Disaster in Lebanon: US and French Operations in 1983
In 1982 and 1983, an international force consisting of US, French, Italian, and British contingents attempted to bring peace to war-thorn Lebanon, and also prevent Israelis, Syrians, and Palestinians from further clashes in this country. The intention failed, eventually, one of the contributing reasons being the disastrous US raid against Syrian and Druze targets in the Beirut area.

Syrian Tank-Hunters in Lebanon, 1982
One of little-known aspects of the Lebanon War, fought between Israel, PLO, and Syria, in June 1982, was a complex anti-tank battle fought by helicopters of both sides. While at least some details about Israeli attack helicopters were published ever since, almost nothing is known about the Syrians, regardless how interesting and innovative some their tactics was.

The Israelis insist the battle in question never happened and they never suffered similar losses!

War of Attrition, 1969-1970
Between 1967 and 1973 the Israelis and Arabs - and especially the Israelis and Egyptians - fought a long and bloody "War of Attrition". Officially declared only in 1969 and finished by a cease-fire in the summer of 1970, this conflict saw many additional clashes both before and after this period: especially the air forces were heavily involved and for the pilots and ground personnel there was frequently no difference to an all-out war, despite there being - at least officially - nothing of this kind. Here an overview of this conflict, that saw the first use of most modern SAMs and electronic warfare on both sides.

Lebanon and Jordan, 1958
In 1958 the USA and the UK intervenned in Lebanon and Jordan, respectivelly, deplying considerable contingents of troops to support local pro-Western governments. These two emergencies came shortly before the Taiwan Crisis, and one of them proved the worth of the US Navy's large carriers beyond any doubt.
