K-pop boy band TVXQ (a.k.a. Tohoshinki) is now officially the biggest and fastest selling foreign act in Japan with their 29th single “Break Out” topping the Oricon music chart.

The single, released last Jan. 27, topped the Oricon weekly and monthly charts on its first week of release with sales reaching 255,917 copies.

This is the first time TVXQ topped the Oricon monthly chart.

With the feat, TVXQ broke the existing Oricon chart record for foreign artists with the most number of copies of singles sold during the first week of release.

TVXQ has broken the 12-year record held by Elton John’s single “Candle in the Wind,” which was released in September 1997 as a tribute to the late Princess Diana. John’s single sold 184,000 copies during its first week of release.

The boy band is now also the first foreign artist to sell past the 200,000 mark based on first-week sales of a single.

In addition, TVXQ also broke its own record by becoming the only foreign artist to have the most No. 1 singles on the Oricon chart.

“Break Out,” which is TVXQ’s best selling single since their debut in 2003, is the group's seventh single to top the Oricon chart.

It is also the theme song of Japan TV station NHK’s drama "Tomehane! Suzuri Koukou Shodoubu."

Fans of TVXQ are ecstatic with the news. “They just keep on breaking records after records and all I can say is that I am extremely proud of the boys and also of their devoted fans!” one fan wrote on the TVXQ fan forum onetvxq.com.

Another added, “I feel so proud of them. They've earned this well.”
