On May 2008 the launch of Africa’s first
DMB
mobile TV commercial service became a reality with the launch of FonTv. The service, which uses DMB technology, is operated by Black Star TV, who have completed nearly a year of trials before launching full commercial operations countrywide. The new service allows users to view movies, sports, music videos, 24-hour news and current affairs. Accessories and the handset necessary for viewing, known as FonTV, cost GHC350 (US$345.66) and include free service for the first three months, after which time subscribers pay GHC4 per month. It is hoped this service will cover 10 regions by the end of 2009.

On 14th May 2008 FonTV, Africa's first mobile phone enabled television content service, was launched via DMB. The network is operated by Black Star TV in collaboration with OneTouch and VDL. This launch followed on from the successful trial that ran in Accra during 2007. The current commercial service is being rolled out nationwide.

- Two local TV channels called FonTV 1 and FonTV 2

It is expected that the number of services will expand to between 8 to 12 channels in the next year
