head of state
) of
Malaysia
. He was the 27th
Sultan of Kedah
. He retired as Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 12 December 2016.
He previously served as the fifth Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 1970 to 1975. He is the first person to hold the position twice, as well as the oldest elected to the office. He is a week older than the world's longest reigning monarch, King
Bhumibol Adulyadej
of
Thailand
.
Halim died on 11 September 2017 at the age of 89 at his palace on Istana Anak Bukit around 2.30 p.m. (
