Heavy metal’s ‘Big Four’ will be heading to international cinema screens when the bands –
Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax
– all perform on the same bill for the first time.
The performances from the
Sonisphere Festival
in Sofia, Bulgaria on June 22 will be beamed via satellite in HD to cinemas.
The four bands are sharing the bill for seven shows on the Sonisphere touring festival.
“Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal’s big four would not only still be around, be more popular than ever, playing shows together at stadiums all over Europe, and on top of that, coming to a movie theater near you in High Definition (for better or worse)?” said Metallica’s
Lars Ulrich
in a statement.
Megadeth’s
Dave Mustaine
added: “The magnitude of this event hasn’t really sunk in yet, and I am thrilled to know that people around the planet will be able to walk into a movie theater and experience the greatest line up of heavy metal in the history of the world.”
The screening will run for four hours from 6.30pm GMT and 79 U.K. cinemas will feature the event, as well as international movie theaters. More than 30 U.K. Cineworld sites are among the cinemas offering tickets.
“It offers something a little different that many wouldn’t expect to see at the cinema,” said Cineworld head of marketing communications Luke Roberts in a statement.
“The Big Four: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax” digital cinema event is distributed globally by New York-based BY Experience.
Details of participating theater box offices are at www.thebigfourlive.com, where fans can also view the event cinema trailer.
