IBM PC ™ 또는 IBM 퍼스널 컴퓨터 (IBM Personal Computer)는 1981년(年) 미국(美國) 의 컴퓨터 정보기기(情報機器) 전문(專門) 업체(業體)인 IBM 사(社)(International Business Machines Corporation)가 선보인 컴퓨터 이다. IBM PC 호환기종(互換機種) 의 모체(母體)이고, 모델명(名)은 IBM 5150 이다. IBM PC의 경쟁상대(競爭相對)는 애플컴퓨터 의 매킨토시 였다.

1980년대(年代) 초반(初盤)에 IBM이 PC를 발표(發表)하였는데 흑백(黑白) 모니터에 해상도(解像度)도 떨어지는 초라한 컴퓨터였다. 컬러 화면(畵面)에 그래픽 인터페이스를 가진 매킨토시와는 비교(比較)하기 힘들만큼 초라하였지만 매킨토시보다 값이 저렴(低廉)하였다. 당시(當時) 많은 사람들은 비싼 매킨토시 대신(代身) PC를 사용(使用)하였고 IBM은 PC 내부(內部)를 공개(公開)하였기 때문에 많은 업체(業體)들은 PC에 관련(關聯)된 하드웨어와 소프트웨어를 개발(開發)할 수 있었다.

XT 286 5162 1986년(年) 9월(月) 80286 느린 하드 디스크를 장착(裝着)하였지만 메인보드에 장착(裝着)된 메모리의 대기(待機) 상태(狀態) 가 0이다. 이 6 MHz 속도(速度)의 컴퓨터는 대기(大氣) 상태(狀態)가 0이었기 때문에 실제로(實際로) 8 MHz AT급(級) 컴퓨터보다 더 빨랐다 (평면적(平面的)인 메모리를 사용(使用)할 때)

  1. ↑ IBM did not offer own brand cassette recorders, but the 5150 had a cassette player jack, and IBM anticipated that entry level home users would connect their own cassette recorders for data storage instead of using the more expensive floppy drives (and use their existing TV sets as monitors); to this end, IBM initially offered the 5150 in a basic configuration without any floppy drives or monitor at the price of $1,565, whereas they offered a system with a monitor and single floppy drive for an initial $3,005. Few if any users however bought IBM 5150 PCs without floppy drives.
  2. ↑ One or two 10 MB hard drives could be installed into an optionally available expansion unit that had a separate 130 Watt power supply; a hard drive could not normally be installed into the main system unit, because its 63.5 Watt power supply was not sufficient for that (cf. Few of these expansion units were ever sold, but users found out that they could replace the 63.5 Watt power supply in the system unit with a 130 Watt power supply, thus allowing them to retrofit internal hard drives into their IBM 5150 PCs.)
