인지과학(認知科學)을 개척(開拓)한 인물(人物)로도 알려져 있으며 뇌량(腦梁)(corpus callosum) 절단술(切斷術)을 받은 환자(患者)를 통해 인간(人間)의 좌우(左右) 두뇌(頭腦)의 기능(機能)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究)를 수행(遂行)했다. 1981년(年)에 대뇌(大腦) 반구(半球)의 기능(機能) 분화(分化)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究)로 데이비드 H. 허블 [1] , 토르스텐 비셀 과 함께 노벨 생리학(生理學)·의학상(醫學賞) 을 수상(受賞)했다. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11]
