The Diet building

Diet of Japan ( ?? , Kokkai ) is the national bicameral legislature of Japan. The National Diet Building is in Nagatach? , Chiyoda, Tokyo .

It is made up of the House of Representatives ( lower house ) and the House of Councillors ( upper house ). [1] The members of both houses of the Diet are directly elected. The Diet selects the Prime Minister .

The Diet was first convened as the Imperial Diet in 1889. [1]

In 1947, the Diet took its current form. [2]
