レオ?シュトラウス （Leo Strauss、 1899年 9月20日 - 1973年 10月18日 ）は、 ドイツ 出身で主に アメリカ で活躍した 哲?者 である。主著とされることもある『自然?と?史』や『 政治哲? とは何か』によって、政治哲?者として有名。

マ?ルブルク 近郊で生まれる。 エルンスト?カッシ?ラ? に師事し、 1922年 にPh. Dを取得。後に エトムント?フッサ?ル 及び マルティン?ハイデッガ? に?ぶ。 1932年 から 1934年 までの間にロックフェラ???生として パリ と ケンブリッジ に留?。本人も ユダヤ系 で シオニスト でもあったため、 ナチス の迫害を逃れるため、 1938年 にアメリカへ移住。 コロンビア大? ?史?科のリサ?チ?フェロ?を?て ニュ?スク?ル大? において 政治? を講義する。 1944年 にアメリカ?籍を取得。 1949年 に シカゴ大? に招聘され、以後20年間にわたり、政治哲?の講義??究を行った。

ハイデッガ?、 タルム?ド （ユダヤ?の正典）、 イスラム哲? 、 スピノザ などの哲?を取り入れ、?自の哲??系を構築。彼の門下生によって「シュトラウス?派」が形成された。その講義では、 プラトン をはじめとして、 マキャベリ 、 ニ?チェ らのテクストが用いられた。 アリストテレス の影響から カ?ル?ポパ? と同じくプラトンの?家論には?固反?したが、プラトンは 認識論 として?むべきとし、大衆を統一するには外部の脅威を用意したり、宗?を用いてもよいという「高貴な?」 Noble lies をプラトンは唱えたと解?した。ただし、彼個人は、 マルクス主義 や ナチズム を「?酷なニヒリズム」として斥け、その台頭を許した ワイマ?ル政? も批判した。

また、 マックス?ヴェ?バ? 流の「事?と?値の峻別」を問題視した。

政治的影響への見方 [ 編集 ]

彼の思想は現代アメリカ政治、特に ネオコン と呼ばれている人に影響を?え、 ブッシュ 政?の運?の?り所のひとつと見る向きもある。しかし、 フランシス?フクヤマ のようにそういった見方を否定する論調もある。フクヤマは著書の中で「ブッシュ政?の外交政策にシュトラウスが影響を?えたと見ることがバカげている理由の一つに、イラク??へと邁進したブッシュ政??にシュトラウス派がただの一人もいないという事?がある。」と述べている（『アメリカの終わり』35頁）。ただし、シュトラウスに影響を受けた人物（フクヤマもその一人）と、シュトラウス派（Straussian）は?別されることも多い。

あるいは、そもそも古典的な自然法を奉じるシュトラウスと人?的な世界?を持つネオコンでは矛盾しているとの指摘もある。

弟子格に?たる人物としては、 アラン?ブル?ム や ソ?ル?ベロ? がいる。
