Hyunsil Culture Studies
“Hyunsil Culture Studies” was co-founded by various persons in the cultural field in the early 90s. In order to have a clear perspective, or to have a precise idea of ‘reality’ and be actively engaged with it, they have published books such as
Apgujeong-dong: Utopia/Dystopia
,
The Ideology named Marriage
, and
New Generation Be as You Are.
They also have been practicing art movement, culture movement, and publishing movement altogether through exhibitions, workshops and seminars. Now, they are working on introducing significant books not only within the field of art but also in architecture, comics, film, photography, design, and performance that may have few readers and be hard to access. In addition, they are expanding to humanities and liberal arts topics that will nourish the depth and extent of understanding our reality.

The Book Society
“The Book Society” is a project space and bookshop run by “Mediabus,” an independent small press publishing house established in 2007 by independent director Helen Ku and Kyung Yong Lim. Mediabus has published material for new artists, and have expanded to working on artist books directly or by commission. By means of publishing, Mediabus records the discussions within contemporary art with emphasis on design, architecture, art criticism, theory, and visual culture. The Book Society is a physical extension of Mediabus and distributes their own (in house) published books as well as directing programs related to publishing: running artist talks, publishing parties, screenings, exhibition, study groups, and workshops.
