Fort George is a large 18th-century fortress north-east of Inverness in Scotland , United Kingdom . It replaced a fort in Inverness which was blown up in 1746 by the Jacobites . [1] It was finished in 1769. It is built in a star shape and has its own harbour on the Moray Firth . It has never been attacked.

It is open to visitors with an exhibition showing the fort's use at different periods. It is still used as an army barracks .
