Canada's population clock explained
Canada's population clock provides information on the pace of population renewal of the Canadian population. In this tool, the components of population growth are modelled in real time in order to adjust the population of the country, provinces and territories. The population change modelled since midnight is also provided.
Each of the uniquely coloured, vertical bars represents a component of population growth (births, deaths, immigrants, emigrants, non-permanent residents and interprovincial migrants). When these bars fill or empty, there is an impact on the population.
The impact on the provincial and territorial population can also be seen. The provinces and territories where the events occur are highlighted on the map and in the data table below. For interprovincial migrants, an arrow is shown between the provinces or territories of origin and of destination. The population vary based on the modelled demographic events.
The actions can be paused by using the pause button located on the top left side of the main content page. When the page is resumed, the actions will resume in real time.
All data modelled with this tool can be found in the data table included below.
The most recent population estimates are used to calculate the interval between two demographic events and to attribute demographic events to provinces or territories. Finally, the seasonality of these events is accounted for in the parameters.
