She was one of the first female science fiction/fantasy writers in the industry and wrote a unique swords and sorcery heroine name Jirel of Joiry that was noted for both the similarities and differences from Conan the Barbarian. She was praised for her ability to take a similar character and launch her in a completely unique manner and direction.
