Dr Mahathir admitted to IJN for an infection

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for an infection.

Sources told The Star that the 98-year old politician had been admitted on Tuesday (Aug 1) to treat the infection, which was not disclosed.

The source added that Dr Mahathir is doing well, and expected to be released by Friday (Aug 4).

Another official close to Dr Mahathir was also reported to have said that the former leader was not in any kind of danger.

The veteran politician has had health scares throughout the years, from suffering multiple heart attacks and even undergoing bypass surgery back in 2007.

He had also been admitted to the hospital for Covid-19 after testing positive in August last year.
