Albert D. Marshall, OC, Mi’kmaw Elder, Indigenous leader, advocate (born 1938 in Eskasoni First Nation, NS). Elder Albert Marshall is a member of the Moose Clan and a fluent Mi’kmaw speaker. Marshall is the spokesperson for the Mi’kmaq Nation on matters related to natural resources and environmental issues. He tirelessly promotes cultural revitalization, the Mi’kmaw language and the need to live sustainably. Since the 1970s, Marshall has travelled nationally and internationally. He shares his passion and wisdom on ecological integrity and living in balance. He has received many awards and honorary doctorates.

Alberto (b Antonio Alberto Garcia Guerrero) Guerrero. Teacher, pianist, composer, b La Serena, Chile, 6 Feb 1886, d Toronto 7 Nov 1959. Alberto Guerrero's early music studies were with his mother and his older brother Daniel; he was otherwise self-taught.
Alcibiade Beique. Organist, teacher, b St-Jean-Baptiste-de-Rouville, near Montreal, 20 Oct 1856, d Montreal 20 Jun 1896. After organ lessons with Romain-Octave Pelletier, he studied 1877-8 at the Liege Cons and travelled in Italy, France, and England.
Lanza, Alcides (Emigdio). Composer, conductor, pianist, teacher, b Rosario, Argentina, 2 Jun 1929, naturalized Canadian 1976. In Buenos Aires he studied piano with Ruwin Erlich, conducting with Roberto Kinsky, and composition with Julian Bautista and Alberto Ginastera.

Alexandre-M. (Marie) Clerk. Choirmaster, teacher, b Montreal 31 Aug 1861, d there 27 Jul 1932. In 1896 he succeeded R.-O. Pelletier as choirmaster at the Gesu Church.
Alexina Diane Louie, OC, OOnt, FRSC, composer, pianist, teacher (born 30 July 1949 in Vancouver, BC). Alexina Louie is one of Canada’s most celebrated composers. She writes music with an imaginative and spiritual blend of Asian and Western influences. Her compositions have earned many prizes, including multiple Juno and SOCAN Awards. Her most significant works include Scenes from a Jade Terrace (1988), Music for Heaven and Earth (1990) and Bringing the Tiger Down from the Mountain II (2004). Louie is the first woman to receive the Jules Leger Prize for New Chamber Music and served as composer-in-residence at the Canadian Opera Company from 1996 to 2002. An Officer of the Order of Canada and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, she has received the Order of Ontario, the Molson Prize and a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.
