Gary Bloom
The guy with the voice you may remember from such staples of yesteryear as Football Italia, Pro Evolution Soccer or Sky One's footballing drama Dream Team drew the short straw of the World Cup so far with the 2am kick off between Ivory Coast and Japan. Not only this, but Bloom was asked to fly solo for the game and talk us through it without the aide of a co-commentator. This put him in a difficult position, asking himself questions that he wasn't able to properly answer. After 11 minutes he stated that couldn't remember the Ivory Coast goalkeeper having a save to make, an amazing example of what the stresses and strains of being a commentator will do to your short-term memory. Despite this, he soldiered on valiantly.
