From the zeal of their fans to their effervescent cricket and the singular all-round brilliance of Shakib Al Hasan , Bangladesh have enriched this World Cup. Three scores over 300, victories over South Africa and the West Indies, and fierce tussles against all-comers, have confirmed Bangladesh’s elevation into a competitive side in all climes.?

But Bangladesh’s journey in the 2019 World Cup will now only comprise one further pool game. Just as in 2015, India eliminated Bangladesh from the World Cup.

Then, in the quarter-finals, Rohit Sharma’s century set-up a total in excess of 300 and a facile win. At a heaving Edgbaston, Sharma’s century once again set-up a total of more than?300.?

Bangladesh, sustained by Shakib’s serene 66 and then Mohammad Saifuddin’s blistering undefeated 51, threatened to overhaul India’s target far more than they had ever done in Melbourne four years ago. But the inimitable Jasprit Bumrah always loomed at the death as a roadblock on Bangladesh’s ambitions.

The last two balls of his allocation, two pristine yorkers that rattled into the stumps of batsmen whose knowledge of exactly what was to come only foreshadowed their demise, clinched a 28-run victory. It also settled the angst of Virat Kohli, who vigorously debated a failed review earlier in the innings and may later face sanctions.?

As well as the Indian fans, more than matched in fervour if not quite number by Bangladesh’s contingent, Bumrah’s brilliance brought cheer to England, who now have a potential route to semi-final qualification even if they lose their final game to New Zealand. Should Bangladesh beat Pakistan at Lord’s on Friday, then England will be guaranteed a last four berth.

Bangladesh arrived at Edgbaston hoping that that game on Friday could be an effective quarter-final. While that looked just about conceivable for swathes of a run chase brimming with enterprise, Tamim Iqbal’s straightforward drop by square leg when Sharma had nine was a decisive moment.??

It continued two intertwined trends of this World Cup: Sharma being dropped early, and Sharma making a century. Three times during his four centuries, Sharma has been reprieved in single figures. His five sixes alone were five times as many as India mustered during their doomed run chase on the same Edgbaston wicket against England on Sunday.?

Although they reached 314-9, India’s total contained the air of a missed opportunity. After Sharma’s dismissal, which ended the highest opening partnership of the tournament to date at 180, India stumbled over the 134 runs they added in 20.4 overs. Yet the unconvincing nature of India’s middle over, despite a sparky 48 from Rishabh Pant, was also a testament to the beguiling skills of Mustafizur Rahman.?

Mustafizur’s remarkably supple wrist allows him to adjust his release point virtually as he delivers the ball, so that his slower balls and cutters have no discernible change in his action. With 15 wickets in the World Cup, including 5-59 at Edgbaston, Mustafizur has affirmed his status as one of world cricket’s most original talents. Like his team, he has brought intrigue and multifarious skills to this World Cup.

Rohit Sharma named Player of the Match

I had a great feeling right at the start. The pitch was good to bat on, a used pitch. Initially wanted to take some time, assess, and see where we go from there.

This World Cup, the first game against South Africa the conditions were challenging, last time against England too, the pitch wasn't coming onto the bat as I would have liked and they used the conditions well. Batting first, there's no scoreboard conditions so we wanted to come out and be positive.

I was lucky early on [dropped by Iqbal] but fortune favours the brave I guess. I never think about the shorter boundary when I bat, if I'm good touch then my game is about piercing the field.

My mantra is whatever happened in the past, keep it there. That's what I'm trying to do. It's critical that guys in-form continue that form.

ALL OUT: BAN 286 (Shaifuddin 45* Mustafizur 0)

Y orker again! Spectacular bowling at the end from Bumrah as  India win by 28 runs .

That's India qualified for the semi-finals, while Bangladesh are out with one game to go.

WICKET! Rubel b Bumrah 9

B umrah's last over. All rests on Shaifuddin. Rubel gets him back on strike with a single. Four down the ground! Shaifuddin gets to 50, top effort down by the rope to cut it off, but it was too powerful for Kohli.

Has to settle for a single though. And then gone! Straight and full, yorker and Rubel goes. FOW 286/8

OVER 47: BAN 279/8 (Shaifuddin 45* Rubel 8*)

S ingle for Rubel and then a wide from Shami. Pulled for four by Shaifuddin! That's as good as it gets.

36 needed from 18 balls.

OVER 46: BAN 272/8 (Shaifuddin 40* Rubel 7*)

H eck of a shot by Rubel, clubbing Bumrah back down the ground for four. One for the archive that. Seven off the over.

43 needed off 24 balls.

OVER 45: BAN 264/8 (Shaifuddin 38* Rubel 1*)

R ubel off the mark, sort of, with an edge to third man. Bhuvneshwar follows that up with a wide. Nice shot by Shaifuddin, off the back foot carving a four away past mid-off.

Single added by Shaifuddin to keep the strike.

WICKET! Mortaza c Dhoni b Bumrah 8

S ix for Mortaza, just, down the ground and just clearing the man. And then he goes next ball! Dhoni diving to his right, Mortaza gone, Bumrah strikes again.  FOW 257/8

OVER 44: BAN 251/7 (Shaifuddin 33* Mortaza 2*)

F irst-ball yorker by Mortaza, who blocks well. Wide from Bumrah before Shaifuddin adds two runs.

Bangladesh need 64 runs from 36 balls.

WICKET! Shabbir b Bumrah 36

S low, full, straight, gone! Bumrah strikes. Shabbir played well, but goes.  FOW 245/7

OVER 43: BAN 245/6 (Shaifuddin 30* Shabbir 36*)

S habbir flashes at one and gets a single away. Bhuvneshwar bowling and after a second single gives a wide away. Nice yorker though, well blocked by Shabbir.

Another wide... but Shabbir only adds one more single.

OVER 42: BAN 240/6 (Shaifuddin 29* Shabbir 34*)

S ingle from Shabbir before Shaifuddin finds the gap through extra cover! Moves to 24 runs off 22 balls.

Pulled for four! Shaifuddin going well, hits the slower ball to the short boundary. Couple of singles in there too.

OVER 41: BAN 229/6 (Shaifuddin 20* Shabbir 32*)

C hahal's last over, wide with the second ball. Otherwise though he does well, giving up only three singles.

OVER 40: BAN 225/6 (Shaifuddin 19* Shabbir 30*)

F our more from Shaifuddin racing away square, before Pandya just misses with a direct hit against Shaifuddin! Single for Shabbir.

Those slow bouncers really working for Pandya though.

OVER 39: BAN 219/6 (Shaifuddin 14* Shabbir 29*)

I n the air from Shaifuddin but over the head of fine leg! Odd over: one wide, two dots, one single and then a boundary for Shabbir past midwicket. Interesting.

OVER 38: BAN 208/6 (Shaifuddin 9* Shabbir 24*)

S habbir chasing after a short one with his bat and finds the gap between mid-on and midwicket for four! Then a fine edge adds another four. That will annoy Shami.

Single brings up the 200 and then Shaifuddin cracks one over the top of Shami for four more! Expensive over, 13 runs from four balls. Bouncer from Shami, taking out some frustration.

Shaifuddin having fun now, up and over mid-on, one bounce, four!

OVER 37: BAN 191/6 (Shaifuddin 1* Shabbir 16*)

J ust the one off the over from Shabbir. How soon will India put this away?

OVER 36: BAN 190/6 (Shaifuddin 1* Shabbir 14*)

P andya with a wide to start before Shabbir adds four square. Bumrah was trying to cut it off and took a tumble, gets some treatment, now walking off under his own power.

Two more for Shabbir, then a single.

Bangladesh still need 125.

OVER 35: BAN 182/6 (Shaifuddin 1* Shabbir 7*)

S habbir with a single down to mid-on, followed by another by Shaifuddin. Three in the end off the over.

OVER 34: BAN 179/6 (Shaifuddin 0* Shabbir 5*)

N o run from Shaifuddin's first ball.

WICKET! Shakib c Karthik b Pandya 66

A nd that, you expect, is that. Slower ball from Pandya, looped up in the air by Shakib and caught by Karthik at midwicket. Great knock, but Bangladesh won't recover from here with the star man gone.  FOW 179/6

OVER 33: BAN 177/5 (Shakib 65* Shabbir 4*)

N o slip and Shabbir edges that away for four runs to get off the mark. Fuller, played off his toes, safe.

WICKET! Mosaddek b Bumrah 3

B owled! Bit of swing, inside edge, Bangladesh now five down.  FOW 173/5

OVER 32: BAN 172/4 (Shakib 64* Mosaddek 3*)

S ingle for Shakib. Mosaddek with soft hands watches the ball float over the cover fielders and drop safe. Shakib then has to jump to get after a single towards midwicket, pace right off the ball. Bottom edge then doesn't carry to Dhoni!

OVER 31: BAN 169/4 (Shakib 62* Mosaddek 2*)

C ut for four by Shakib to third man. He's into the 60s. Everything rides on him now. Another single to third man.

Bangladesh need 146 runs off 114 balls.

OVER 30: BAN 163/4 (Shakib 57* Mosaddek 1*)

M osaddek off the mark with a single. Das properly skied that. Big blow for the run chase.

WICKET! Das c Karthik b Pandya 22

O h hello . The first six of the innings, from Das, clubbed over mid-on!

But then Das doesn't get hold of the pull shot on the short ball and it drops straight to Karthik at midwicket! Another one gone.  FOW 162/4

OVER 29: BAN 156/3 (Shakib 57* Das 16*)

N early  another  run out chance, but Shakib gets home this time just, sliding on his belly, bat outstretched to get two runs. Kohli thought he had him. 150 up for Bangladesh with those two runs.

Couple of singles, before Shakib on the pull shot adds two. Very good over in fact, nine from it with Shakib playing well.

OVER 28: BAN 147/3 (Shakib 50* Das 14*)

D as might be gone! Thrown in from deep midwicket, reviewed... oh he's well safe before Dhoni can get the ball on the stumps. A scare though.

Shakib beats Kohli! Four runs, Kohli made a right hash of that at mid-off, bounced out of the practice surface past him. Hard running to bring up Shakib's 50! It's come off 58 balls.

OVER 27: BAN 139/3 (Shakib 43* Das 13*)

T wo from Das, and then a sniff of a run out, direct hit by Bumrah and he might have been gone! Safe for now. Another two, this time past point, to take him to six from the over.

OVER 26: BAN 133/3 (Shakib 43* Das 7*)

T wo singles and then a nice pull shot by Das is cut off well to save two runs by Rahul. Looked for all money like a boundary. Single then noodled to third man.

OVER 25: BAN 127/3 (Shakib 42* Das 3*)

C ouple of singles off that Chahal over. 188 needed off 25 overs now we're at halfway.

OVER 24: BAN 125/3 (Shakib 41* Das 2*)

D as off the mark with a couple of singles. Last two wickets have seen the ball sail exactly where Virat Kohli wanted it to go for two easy catches. Better performance today from the India captain.

WICKET! Mushfiqur c Shami b Chahal 24

C hahal continuing to toil. After a Shakid single, Mushfiqur waits and cuts a boundary past backward point.

But his tough spell ends with a wicket! Failed sweep by Mushfiqur and the man is there at midwicket. Chahal with a "classy" wave to Mushfiqur as he leaves the field.   FOW 121/3

OVER 22: BAN 116/2 (Shakib 38* Mushfiqur 20*)

O h that is good. First boundary for Shakib in a while, cut for four past third man. Adds a single in the same direction.

Two more singles before Mushfiqur pulls a short ball, could be two, just one. Eight from the over before the last... glanced square for another single.

OVER 21: BAN 107/2 (Shakib 31* Mushfiqur 18*)

T hree singles. Chahal is now 0-28 through his five overs.

OVER 20: BAN 104/2 (Shakib 29* Mushfiqur 17*)

C ouple of singles brings the 100 up for Bangladesh. Not a bad chase this. Partnership building momentum with six off the last over.

OVER 19: BAN 98/2 (Shakib 25* Mushfiqur 15*)

C ouple of dots before a square single by Shakib. Then Mushfiqur beats fine leg for four more! Light nudge, paddled away.

And four more! Finds the short boundary Mushfiqur, well played, couple of bounces and meets the rope by midwicket. Ten off the over.

OVER 18: BAN 88/2 (Shakib 24* Mushfiqur 6*)

S ingle from Shakib to third man, before Mushfiqur is cut off on the boundary, settling for two. Then a single through the on-side. Pandya with a few short balls already.

Edged, very fine, four runs! Bit fortunate. Second slip if there been one might have been close. Shakib then pulls a single, nine from the over.

You will be stunned to know that Jadeja is on as a sub.

OVER 17: BAN 79/2 (Shakib 18* Mushfiqur 3*)

T he slow start of a partnership with four singles. These two simply must hang around.

OVER 16: BAN 75/2 (Shakib 16* Mushfiqur 1*)

E dge from Mushfiqur but no slips are home. He's off the mark though with a single.

WICKET! Soumya c Kohli b Pandya 33

W ide from Pandya but he follows it up by smacking the ball straight to Kohli at extra cover! The India captain responds with a withering "That's out!", raising his finger, still aggrieved by the earlier review moment (which actually wasn't out). Both openers gone.  FOW 74/2

OVER 15: BAN 73/1 (Shakib 16* Soumya 33*)

C ouple of singles - India were in the 80s at this stage, when Rohit was in full flow. Shakib needs to hang around for a while.

Four off the over.

OVER 14: BAN 69/1 (Shakib 14* Soumya 31*)

U p and over mid-off from Soumya for four! Well played. Followed by a single. Shakib off the last ball gets enough under it to reach the boundary at deep extra cover. Nine off Shami's over.

OVER 13: BAN 59/1 (Shakib 13* Soumya 22*)

C hahal on for spin, Shakib reads the bad ball just paddles it along for four down to long leg. He then adds two more past backwards square.

OVER 12: BAN 53/1 (Shakib 7* Soumya 22*)

I nteresting: Dhoni has left the field, Pant on gloves duty. Soumya for four! Fine, fine drive on the up through covers.

Big shout from Shami, coming round the wicket so big angle... Kohli reviews with a couple of seconds to go!

Now that's interesting - in real time it looked like there was no bat, but on review there's not evidence from the third umpire to overturn the decision given it looks like pad and bat at the same time. Personally thought Soumya never got his bat to it.

Kohli livid at the umpires - almost crossing a line there.

F or the record, ball tracker says it would have been umpire's call. India have also lost their review.

S ix runs after all that from the over.

OVER 11: BAN 47/1 (Shakib 6* Soumya 17*)

R eal swagger in that boundary from Shakib, beating the man at mid-on with excellent timing.  Up and over the men at point and cover from Soumya, adding a single. Bouncer from Bumrah given as a wide, not that Kohli agrees.

OVER 10: BAN 40/1 (Shakib 1* Soumya 16*)

E nter the star man. Bit of pressure on Shakib to deliver here. Off the mark with a single.

WICKET! Tamim b Shami 22

G oooooooonnneeee!  Shami gets Tamim Iqbal to play a slower ball onto his own stumps. Bails fly, big blow.  FOW 39/1

OVER 9: BAN 38/0 (Tamim 22* Soumya 15*)

S wing and a miss by Tamim. These two are digging in though, adding four singles to get some momentum.

OVER 8: BAN 34/0 (Tamim 20* Soumya 13*)

S hami on to replace Bumrah. Starts well but then gets sliced by Soumya to deep backward point, after an earlier two.

OVER 7: BAN 28/0 (Tamim 20* Soumya 7*)

T amim flicks two runs to long leg and the doesn't time the pull short perfectly but it drops safe, two more runs. Four from the over.

Bit of treatment to Soumya's back.

OVER 6: BAN 24/0 (Tamim 16* Soumya 7*)

F ive runs after a missed attempt at a direct hit leads to overthrows! Both batsmen under real pressure though in these early stages. No one backing up for Pandya's throw.

Dhoni stretching hard does enough to stop a boundary, very short and given as one bye. High speeds from Bumrah.

OVER 5: BAN 18/0 (Tamim 16* Soumya 2*)

B etter from Bhuvneshwar, little respite for Tamim. Two singles end the over, finishing the run of 10 dots.

OVER 4: BAN 16/0 (Tamim 15* Soumya 1*)

N iiiiice by Bumrah. Bowling to the left-hander, movement away, just missed the stumps. Now Bumrah beats the outside edge. Soumya having no fun. Maiden.

Soumya Sarkar of Bangladesh Credit: ICC

OVER 3: BAN 16/0 (Tamim 15* Soumya 1*)

H e might struggle with the catches but man, Tamim can bat. Really well-timed square drive. Then adds two. Single for Soumya as well.

OVER 2: BAN 9/0 (Tamim 9* Soumya 0*)

L istened to Michael Vaughan last night talking about the Indian bowling machine - Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah open, then the double spin - and it's like one of those disaster movies where you know the outcome will be grizzly. Bangladesh know what's coming, but can they stop it?

Three dots for Bumrah and then that's very nice off the pads, pushed past midwicket for a boundary! Beats point off the last for another four - that's positive.

OVER 1: BAN 1/0 (Tamim 1* Soumya 0*)

B huvneshwar to open the bowling. Two dots then a slower effort swinging away, lures a swing, no edge though. Full cordon waiting.

Off the mark with a single to deep backward point. Bhuvneshwar swings it back in off the last, lovely bowling. Just the one run.

Almost back underway

H ope you're all refreshed. Tough ask this for Bangladesh, needing 6.3 runs per over.

END OF INNINGS: IND 314/9 (Bumrah 0 Shami 1*)

M ustafizur gets five with the last ball! Bumrah bowled, emphatic finish by Mustafizur and Bangladesh after all that limit India to 314.  Bangladesh need 315 to win . That innings coming up shortly.

WICKET! Bhuvneshwar run out (Mustafizur) 3

C racking over this from Mustafizur. Two dots, wicket, then a single. Another single... is that a run out? Bhuvneshwar doesn't get home, walking straight off after Mustafizur hits the stumps!  FOW 315/8

WICKET! Dhoni c Shakib b Mustafizur 35

M ustafizur to Dhoni then. Dot ball first. Another dot, found mid-off first, then mid-on. Then Dhoni skies it! Up there for an age before Shakib takes it.  FOW 311/7

OVER 49: IND 311/6 (Bhuvneshwar 1* Dhoni 35*)

W hat can India add then from these last two overs. Looked set for 350+ before Rohit fell.

Lovely cover drive by Dhoni for four. Shaifuddin not finding the yorker, and punished. Dhoni then goes for the sweep and misses. But he then clubs a poor ball for four through the covers too. Last over coming up.

OVER 48: IND 300/6 (Bhuvneshwar 1* Dhoni 24*)

D honi chips a single to third man and that brings up 300. Three singles from the over.

WICKET! Karthik c Mosaddek b Mustafizur 8

S lower ball, Karthik up in the air, gone at midwicket! Well disguised delivery and an easy catch.  FOW 298/6

OVER 47: IND 297/5 (Karthik 8* Dhoni 23*)

S aifuddin limiting both batsmen to singles so far, three from three, before Karthik beats backward point to his left for four!

Two more singles to make it 10 off the over.

OVER 46: IND 287/5 (Karthik 2* Dhoni 19*)

V intage from Dhoni. Barely moves his feet and just glides that four to deep backward point. Followed by a single but a ricochet off the stumps actually turns it into two.

Nine off the over in the end.

OVER 45: IND 279/5 (Karthik 1* Dhoni 11*)

S uper over by Karthik, just two from it and the Pant wicket, which feels big.

WICKET! Pant c Souyma b Shakib 48

N o 50 for Pant! Shakib strikes, Pant pulling the ball right towards the waiting man Soumya - it actually pops out of his hands but comes off his shoulder and is eventually grabbed.  FOW 277/5

OVER 44: IND 277/4 (Pant 48* Dhoni 10*)

F our leg byes as the ball beats Pant, the keeper and everyone to the rope. Swing and a miss, slow ball from Rubel at 74mph luring Pant into a swing. He doesn't want to hang about, clearly. Does get something with a third man single.

Dhoni with a cracking pull shot for four! Superb.

OVER 43: IND 268/4 (Pant 47* Dhoni 6*)

T wo more for Pant. Nearing his 50 now, paddles a single square.

Shakib versus Dhoni seems like a battle the spinner can win. Two dots to the former skipper, three runs off the over.

OVER 42: IND 265/4 (Pant 44* Dhoni 6*)

P ant in good touch, 42 off 29 with a four beating the man coming around at deep square leg. Mustafizir then with a wide after changing his line.

Good timing from Dhoni, quick outfield but it's stopped eventually for three. Single by Pant to keep strike.

OVER 41: IND 255/4 (Pant 38* Dhoni 3*)

M ore Shakib spin, perhaps he can suppress Pant. Four singles a sign of achieving that, good over.

OVER 40: IND 251/4 (Pant 36* Dhoni 1*)

P ant gets enough on that cut to beat the cover fielders - four. He's warming up, lovely pull shot for four more!

Oh that is good, super cut beats backward point for four more! Three boundaries in a row for Pant. Remind me why he wasn't initially picked? Deep square leg comes round to end the run, single. Dhoni off the mark with on run, India over the 250 mark.

OVER 39: IND 237/4 (Pant 23* Dhoni 0*)

I n comes Dhoni. Worth reading Jim White's piece on him.

Sensible leave by Dhoni first ball. Double wicket maiden for Mustafizur, well bowled.

WICKET! Pandya c Soumya b Mustafizur 0

G uess Kohli just couldn't find the short boundary.......................................

In comes Pandya and has that carried?! It has! Pandya gone second ball, edge just about reaches the wide slip!  FOW 237/4

WICKET! Kohli c Rubel b Mustafizir 26

K ohli out in the deep! Man at deep midwicket waits patiently and it drops in the bucket with Kohli looking to add on the runs, not often you see him come up short of 50.  FOW 237/3

OVER 38: IND 237/2 (Pant 23* Kohli 26*)

P ant with an extraordinary shot, clipping the ball back over his shoulder and finding the fine leg gap. Easy two for Kohli towards midwicket, sandwiched by two singles. Pant beats midwicket off the last to add two more.

OVER 37: IND 227/2 (Pant 16* Kohli 23*)

S uperb placement by Kohli. Small step forward, face of the bat open and whips it to the right of mid-on.

Pant unlikely to stay quiet and he sweeps very well to long leg for four, deep fielder unable to get across. Single makes it 10 from the over.

OVER 36: IND 217/2 (Pant 11* Kohli 18*)

U p and over the field for a single by Pant, cut off by the deep fielder. Single from Kohli. Straighter delivery, glanced square by Pant. Kohli then whips one off his toes to get two, running down to square leg. Six off the over in the end.

OVER 35: IND 211/2 (Pant 9* Kohli 14*)

O ne leg bye, but too straight by Rubel. Needs more of those balls that led to the wicket, shaping towards off stump.

Oh that's nice. Placed perfectly through the gap on the leg side for four, Mortaza unable to get there at midwicket for the save.

Couple of singles follow.

OVER 34: IND 204/2 (Pant 8* Kohli 9*)

S cream of an appeal from Mosaddek! Lbw? No review coming. Height probably an issue.

Started with a wide but this has been some good bowling since then... until Pant clobs him high up into the stands for  six!  Four dots preceded that. India over 200. Pant keeps strike with a single.

OVER 33: IND 196/2 (Pant 1* Kohli 9*)

L ovely first ball by Rubel to the new man, had Pant in a panic. New batsman responds with a single.

N ice, nice, nice from Kohli, driven down the ground. Bit fuller, beats the bowler, gone in a flash for four. Single added past square leg.

Thick edge and Rahul goes!  Diving catch to the right by Mushfiqur.  FOW 195/2

OVER 32: IND 190/1 (Rahul 77* Kohli 4*)

R ahul in the air for a little while but drops safe, getting two. Single puts Kohli on strike, who adds two before a good block adds a single.

OVER 31: IND 184/1 (Rahul 74* Kohli 1*)

N ot all bad for India, because here comes Kohli. Will he become best friends with the short boundary?

Three singles off the over.

OVER 30: IND 181/1 (Rahul 72* Kohli 0*)

S ingle from Rahul - Rohit had added a four beating deep square leg before fell. The shot that led to his wicket looked a little tired in hindsight.

WICKET! Sharma c Liton Das b Soumya Sarkar 104

N ow he goes! Rohit mistimes a drive over extra cover and it's taken well by a retreating Das! Looked set for a huge score but now he falls.  FOW 180/1

OVER 29: IND 176/0 (Rahul 71* Rohit 100*)

A nother  100  for Rohit! More brilliant batting from the opener as he brings it up with a single through cover. Three off the over from Shakib.

OVER 28: IND 173/0 (Rahul 70* Rohit 98*)

M an out between deep point and deep cover cuts off a Rohit shot for a single. Carbon copy for the next shot by Rahul, another single.

OVER 27: IND 169/0 (Rahul 69* Rohit 96*)

F ive singles from the over. Where does the breakthrough come from for Bangladesh? Rohit's looking at maybe a double ton here.

OVER 26: IND 164/0 (Rahul 67* Rohit 93*)

S ingle to long-on from Rahul, then one to mid-on from Rohit. Big old shout off the last for an edge but the umpires aren't interested, couldn't hear a sound to be honest. On India go, steamrolling towards a score of 300 plus.

OVER 25: IND 162/0 (Rahul 66* Rohit 92*)

Q uieter over from Rubel, giving up only four runs. Rohit sitting on 92 off 77. Remember, he was dropped on nine.

OVER 24: IND 158/0 (Rahul 63* Rohit 91*)

C an't overstate this enough: Rohit is playing some beautiful shots. Six right back over the bowler's head down the ground, holds his pose. The 300th six of the tournament is a gem. That's India's 150.

Two singles follow before some hard running to get two after a dribbler to long leg. Single from Rohit off the last to keep strike.

OVER 23: IND 147/0 (Rahul 62* Rohit 81*)

R ahul's in the box seat here, adds a single and watching Rohit go to work. Another big shot, this time for four towards that short boundary. Adds a single and Rohit is now the top scorer at the Cricket World Cup on 520, overtaking David Warner.

Single down to third man from Rahul with a late cut, before Rohit adds one to keep the strike.

OVER 22: IND 139/0 (Rahul 60* Rohit 75*)

M assive six by Rohit. Middle tier. Long over mid-on into the night.

Mosaddek absolutely pummeled in this over, giving up 13 with Rohit breaking his bat, including a leg-side boundary.

OVER 21: IND 126/0 (Rahul 58* Rohit 64*)

H igh, high in the air by Rohit but it drops short of the midwicket boundary like a stone, two runs. Then a single. Slight hesitation off the lat but they run hard to add another run.

OVER 20: IND 122/0 (Rahul 57* Rohit 61*)

A ll aboard the single train, four of them, until Rohit goes for a bit shot and doesn't quite connect, and even that creates a single. In the air back to Mosaddek off the last but it doesn't carry! Not really a chance, but a hint of something maybe.

OVER 19: IND 117/0 (Rahul 55* Rohit 58*)

N ice drive down the ground by Rahul, delivery a little loose by Rubel with his first ball and away it goes. Single squeezes past midwicket for Rahil to move to 50! It's come off 57 balls.

India on Nelson... was that an edge?! No, but, we all got a little bit excited. Rahul steers us off it with a single, Rohit adds one too, and then that's a sumptuous cover drive by Rahil! A dozen from Rubel's first over, oh boy.

OVER 18: IND 105/0 (Rahul 44* Rohit 57*)

M osaddek in for a bowl. Sweep for two by Rohit brings up the 100 for India. Mosaddek can't quite stop a straight drive, giving up a single. Good strike rotation, four singles to end the over.

OVER 17: IND 99/0 (Rahul 42* Rohit 53*)

R ahul goes for the sweep, doesn't get it, half a shout but outside the line. Then tries to cut a ball towards point but it's very well cut off by Sabbir.

Sweep now from Rohit but there's a man deep square leg, just a single. Better bowling.

OVER 16: IND 97/0 (Rahul 41* Rohit 52*)

S ingle to long leg from Rohit. Someone please check on Iqbal.

Rahul now with the big shot! Mortaza clumped over mid-on for  six , 84m. Too easy really. Then adds three after finding the gap past midwicket, just about cut off to stop a boundary.

Looks cloudy now over Edgbaston, might add some swing.

OVER 15: IND 87/0 (Rahul 32* Rohit 51*)

S hakib has started well but Rohit attacks him there, swept for  six  over the short midwicket boundary. A single hen takes him to yet another ODI 50, this time off 45 balls.

Nice, patient shot by Rahul rocking onto his back foot before cutting a single towards deep cover. Over ends with another Rohit single, nine off the over.

OVER 14: IND 78/0 (Rahul 31* Rohit 43*)

B it of pressure on Rahul - no one was going to find replacing Shikhar Darwan easy - but he's started well enough. Single, then Rohit adds two through the covers. Four off the over.

OVER 13: IND 74/0 (Rahul 30* Rohit 40*)

S hakib trying to continue that trend of slowing India down with his spin. One single off the over.

OVER 12: IND 73/0 (Rahul 29* Rohit 40*)

M ortaza back into the action. Does well, just two off the over. Run rate hovering above six an over.

OVER 11: IND 71/0 (Rahul 28* Rohit 39*)

T ime for some spin and Shakib with a nice second ball, turn and bounce giving Rohit pause for thought. Shakib very lively indeed actually, superb over, India working hard for that one single (plus a wide). Why pick only one spinner?

OVER 10: IND 69/0 (Rahul 28* Rohit 38*)

F our more! Punched by Rahul through the line where mid-off is missing, just past the bowler. Rohit in total control, opens the face and the ball rolls off for another boundary to third man. Adds a single. Drinks break.

Reminder of how ridiculously good Rohit is in this format. Look at the names!

OVER 9: IND 59/0 (Rahul 23* Rohit 33*)

I 'm still thinking about that Iqbal drop, so imagine what's going through his head out there.

Full delivery (no ball called) and Rohit obliges, chopping a four past extra cover. Four fielders on that off-side and he's threaded the ball through. Partnership hits 52 off 51 balls.

And four more! Third man can't stop that shot by Rohit, who is starting to show off  his repertoire, opening the face of his bat and watching that one race away. Two singles to round off another damaging over for Bangladesh.

OVER 8: IND 47/0 (Rahul 21* Rohit 24*)

C ouple of singles before Rahul punishes a poor ball by Shaifuddin, nudging a four past long leg. Follows it up with a delightful stroke to the left of mid-off, racing away for four more. Expensive over, shipping 11 runs.

OVER 7: IND 36/0 (Rahul 11* Rohit 23*)

C hopped by Rohit Sharma to third man for a boundary. Well over fielders, one bounce, four runs. He's warming up. Mustafizur settles him down with a slower ball.

Rohit clips a single to midwicket, Rahul then doing the same.

OVER 6: IND 30/0 (Rahul 10* Rohit 18*)

R ohit the merciless. Screams a six 82m over extra cover. Don't bowl that short, he'll eat it up. Good footwork and it goes a long way.

Two for Rahul before he sees a cover drive blocked for no run, nine off the over.

OVER 5: IND 21/0 (Rahul 8* Rohit 11*)

G ood from Mustafizur, three dots, before Rohit hits up in the air but it's dropped by Iqbal! That is unforgivable down at deep midwicket, he was jogging around to it, looked an easy one. That's a killer against in-form Sharma.

Two singles from Rohit and a leg bye. India should be one down.

OVER 4: IND 18/0 (Rahul 8* Rohit 9*)

S haifuddin starting well. Second ball stays low, Rahul working hard to get his bat out the way, mis-read the length.

Four dots but then Rahul finds the gap well for four after a horrendous misfield by Shakib! Should have been just two. Good over though.

*So much* going on here. Glorious.

OVER 3: IND 14/0 (Rahul 4* Rohit 9*)

T hought the crowd sounded a little quiet - they've woken up now. Early (earliest possible really) bowling change for Bangladesh, Mustafizur with the ball.

Rahul ushers a short ball to third man for a single but three dots follow before Rohit goes up in the air towards leg gully, but it drops short, single.

Rahul beats the man at backward point for one more.

OVER 2: IND 11/0 (Rahul 2* Rohit 8*)

S haifuddin from the other end and already rolling out the slower deliveries. Better over too, just the one from it off the last, a single dabbed square.

OVER 1: IND 10/0 (Rahul 1* Rohit 8*)

M ortaza is not the quickest, searching for some swing. Rahul off the mark with a single towards square. No swing there yet, Mortaza hovering around 78mph and delivers a wide.

Rohit picks that one up though! Six towards the short boundary (hope that's alright, Virat) at deep square leg. Two off the last for a good first over by India.

Big ramifications

Right, news from the toss

I ndia captain Virat Kohli wins it, and would like to have a bat, please.

India have also made two changes: Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dinesh Karthik come in, Kuldeep Yadav and Kedar Jadhav are out.

And it's two changes for Bangladesh as well. Mahmudullah Riyad is not fit, replaced by Sabbir Rahman, while Rubel Hossain comes in for Mehidy Hasan.

Just realised this match number 40 of the CWC

40! Where is it all going? It'll be over before we know it.

Bangladesh vs India - match preview

I ndia have another chance to secure a semi-final spot in the Cricket World Cup when Virat Kohli's team play Bangladesh at Edgbaston today.

Second-place India, which lost for the first time against England on Sunday, have 11 points from seven games and will advance with a win.

If Bangladesh beat two-time champions India, they can move level with fifth-place Pakistan on nine points - one point behind fourth-place England. Bangladesh can't advance if they lose.

Bangladesh and Pakistan meet in their last group game at Lord's on Friday. India's final group match is against Sri Lanka at Headingley on Saturday.

India have won the last four ODIs against Bangladesh. The teams have played each other three times at the World Cup so far with Bangladesh winning in 2007 followed by victories for India in 2011 and 2015. Bangladesh and India have met once before in an ODI at Edgbaston when India won by nine wickets in the 2017 Champions Trophy with big scores from Rohit Sharma and Kohli.

The forecast is for a mild, sunny day.
