extension adds SEO-friendly
<meta description="..." />
tags containing a brief snippet of the article to article pages' HTML.
Additionally said description for the Main Page only can be overridden by editing the
MediaWiki:Description
interface message.
Installation

- Download
and move the extracted
ArticleMetaDescription
folder to your
extensions/
directory.
Developers and code contributors should install the extension
from Git
instead, using:
cd extensions/
git clone https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/mediawiki/extensions/ArticleMetaDescription
- Add the following code at the bottom of your
LocalSettings.php
file:
wfLoadExtension
(
'ArticleMetaDescription'
);

on your wiki to verify that the extension is successfully installed.
Usage

ArticleMetaDescription automatically takes the first paragraph of the article and puts it into the
<meta description="..." />
tag inside the page header section. All templates (infoboxes, tables etc.) are ignored by default.
It's possible to set predefined description for the wiki's main page (the name of which is specified in
MediaWiki:Mainpage
) by putting desired text into the
MediaWiki:Description
message.
