A proposed revision
to Japan’s immigration law that will allow the government to revoke a foreign national's permanent resident status if the holder deliberately fails to pay taxes cleared the Lower House on Tuesday.
The bill, expected to be debated in the Upper House later this week, adds permanent residents intentionally missing tax payments to an existing list of behaviors in the immigration law that can be grounds for the cancellation of residency status.
The new clause is part of a wider revision to the immigration law, which also included
replacing the technical intern training program with a new system that will allow such foreign workers to switch employers and stay in Japan for a longer period
