Former RTE presenter Caitriona Perry starts new job with BBC

Former RTE Six One News co-presenter Caitriona Perry has started her new job with BBC in the US.

Ms Perry announced in May that she was leaving the national broadcaster to take up her new international role as chief presenter with the BBC.

She had worked with RTE for nearly 16 years and co-presented the Six One News programme since January 2018.

The journalist’s new role, which is based in Washington DC, started today. She will appear on BBC World News America as part of her new gig.

She shared a snap of her first day on the new job on social media today.

"New office today! First day at @BBCNews. First time in the anchor chair for @BBC World News America. #newgirl," she wrote.

A number of fans and former colleagues took to the comment section to wish her well.

Prime Time presenter Miriam O’Callaghan said: “Congratulations Caitriona ? how incredibly exciting. They’re lucky to have you. Enjoy.”

Former RTE Midlands Correspondent Ciaran Mullooly, who retired after the Covid-19 pandemic, said: "Good luck @CaitrionaPerry. Will be in New York on Saturday and will have all the cousins tuned in to see their new favourite TV News anchor."

RTE weather forecaster Joanna Donnelly wrote: “Fab! Looks good on you.”

Her family, including her husband and two children, have relocated to the US as part of her new role.

Ms Perry previously worked as the RTE News Washington correspondent from February 2013 to December 2017.
