2024 schedule: How the Jaguars are going 17-0 (Big Cat Country)

Last year was last year. In May, hope springs eternal - and looking at the Jacksonville Jaguars’ recently released schedule, it’s very hard to see where a loss comes from. Here’s a prediction for the 2024 calender, as seen through my black and teal tinted glasses.

5 Things to Watch For at Jaguars OTA No. 1 (Jaguar Report)

The biggest storyline throughout most of OTAs, minicamp, and training camp will likely be the Jaguars’ new look defense. The Jaguars fired defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell and most of his staff after their late-season collapse and hired arguably the top defensive coordinator on the market in Ryan Nielsen. Starting Monday, Nielsen can start the long and vital process of implementing his scheme.

Winners and Losers of Jaguars’ 2024 Offseason (Jaguar Report)

Heath Farwell: The Jaguars made several moves this offseason that should make special teams coordinator Heath Farwell happy. From signing a Pro Bowl returner in Devin Duvernay to adding other players with special teams value like Jarrian Jones, Deantre Prince, Keilan Robinson, and Cam Little. It was a good offseason for Farwell.

Defensive back Jarrian Jones brings positive attitude, ready to make impact for Jaguars (Times-Union)

Jones was selected No. 96 in the draft and can immediately slot in as the starting nickel in defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen’s scheme. But Jones also has the skillset to lineup anywhere in the secondary ? a valued attribute when defending rapidly evolving offenses.

Trevor Lawrence hasn’t lived up to the hype. The Jaguars still need to pay him big (Yahoo Sports)

Lawrence has the long-term potential where any market-rate QB extension could feel like a steal in the near future. He turns 25 in October and there’s still untapped level of play that Lawrence is capable of. Whether or not head coach Doug Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke can build a Super Bowl-level roster is a whole different topic, but one thing is true ? that’s impossible without Lawrence.

Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence set to become next $50 million quarterback, per report (CBS Sports)

There are five quarterbacks who currently make over $50 million a season, and that number is expected to increase sometime in the very near future. The Jaguars are in talks with quarterback Trevor Lawrence about a contract extension that is expected to pay him around $50 million annually, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Editor’s pick

Steelers’ Arthur Smith, Eagles’ Kellen Moore and Seahawks’ Ryan Grubb are among intriguing play-callers in new places (Yahoo Sports)

I am overall bullish on Grubb, Huff and new Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald. Their units have consistently been well-coached and showed a keen sense of how to deploy their own personnel. The Seahawks’ offensive line still has plenty of question marks, but even with those potential blemishes, I am excited to see what Grubb unveils and how he mitigates any speed bumps, all while finding ways to let Smith fire some rockets and mortars from the pocket.
