The 84-year-old showman said it was a "wonderful surprise" to be recognised for a career that has lasted 72 years. Sir Bruce will soon be seen on BBC One presenting the 10th series of dancing competition Strictly Come Dancing. Earlier this year he made his debut appearance at a music festival at the Hop Farm event in Paddock Wood, Kent. Another BBC institution, motoring show Top Gear, is also recognised in the 2013 volume. Comedian Peter Kay, reformed rockers The Stone Roses and Canadian singer Leonard Cohen also feature in the latest edition, out on 13 September. Phoenix Nights star Kay said he was "extremely proud" to be celebrated for having sold the highest number of tickets for a stand-up comedy tour.
