Pennsylvania's? Sathanas spent the last three decades building a no-frills blackened thrash, but there's a chance you've not heard of them. Other acts like? Aura Noir certainly deserve the acclaim they receive for playing a similar style of music. Still, for a band like? Sathanas , it seems damn-near criminal just how under the radar they have flown for 30 years. This week, the band releases their tenth(!) full-length record entitled? Necrohymns . It's eight tracks of hard-nosed, ripping fusion built from the earliest machinations of two of metal's most ardent genres.

A song like "Sacramentum" from that album is raw and incisive. It encapsulates? Sathanas ' long-standing vision of heavy music.?It swiftly cuts with feverish riffing and caustic vocals across four frenzied minutes. The ruthless swagger that comes with black thrash is ever-present on the album's penultimate track. A big drum roll opens the song before a blackened groove engulfs much of the song's meat.
