She was the headline-grabbing judge when the series launched in 2019 but now the actress reveals why she won’t be joining the Channel 10 show in 2021

Lindsay Lohan has confirmed to TV Blackbox that she will not be taking part in series 3 of The Masked Singer , which is set to begin filming in early July.

The loss of Lohan for series two led to a sharp decline in viewers. with the premiere episode down 37% from 1.2 million in 2019 to 733,000 in 2020. In overnight figures the season average in the 5 cap cities was 928k in 2019 compared to 816k in 2020 (that’s a drop of 12% year on year).

Speaking to TV Blackbox contributor Abbey Mikkelsen , Lindsay has blamed the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions for her absence from the upcoming series, saying:

“We couldn’t do it again due to COVID still! But I’m sure they will have a nice season!”

Anyone entering Australia currently has to isolate for 14 days in hotel quarantine but other international stars taking part in local reality TV shows have gone through that process.

It is not clear whether Lindsay chose not to undergo quarantine or if 10 was not willing to foot the bill.

Late last year Lindsay told us she would be returning for series 3, saying:

“I will be back in Australia for season 3”

Now that she is not returning, Lindsay indicated she could still return to the series at a future date saying:

“Maybe next year!”

Lohan is set to start production on a Netflix Christmas special in November, which will be available in 2022. Her involvement in that production would not have affected her involvement with this season of The Masked Singer .

Speculation is rife about which stars are taking part in the series, with TV Blackbox readers believing they uncovered an international celebrity who is currently in quarantine. You can read that potential spoiler HERE
