About

Who We Are

One of the purposes of the United Nations as reflected in the Charter of the United Nations is to "achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character, and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion."

The Organization employs a variety of subject matter experts who create knowledge products to advance these goals. These products include books, ?statistical databases, and other digital resources comprising facts and expertise on international peace and security, human rights, gender issues, economic and social development, international trade, climate change, international law, governance, public health, transportation, and statistics.? Publications include time sensitive reports that capture the state of the global economy and welfare of people and the planet. Scholars, information specialists, policymakers and influencers are primary audiences for the United Nations publications.

In the 70 years since the founding of the United Nations, the scope of the Organization has greatly expanded and its knowledge products have diversified beyond books on paper. Publications can now be purchased and consumed in digital form across a variety of portable devices. Global statistical data can be accessed as an iPhone app or as raw data from the online?UN Comtrade database.

Publications are available for purchase from this website. A network of our international partners provides worldwide distribution.
