STAT ATTACK New Zealand? have now gone 513 minutes without scoring and ten matches without a win in the Confed Cup: both of these are tournament records.
MATCH REPORT Read our take on the Opening Match, with the hosts sealing a comfortable victory thanks to a Michael Boxall ?first-half own goal and Fedor Smolov 's second-half effort.
The statistics show clearly Russia's control of the match. Not the most encouraging performance by the All Whites, who nonetheless ran their socks off trying to cover ground against the more athletic hosts. Surely there will be more to learn for the young New Zealand team, and it's not likely to get easier against Mexico and Portugal in their next Group A games. A tough welcome to Russia for Anthony Hudson and his side.
SMOLOV SEALS IT? It looks like Russia's second goal, by their No9, has wrapped up this tie.
Founded by Peter I the Great in 1703 as Russia’s new imperial capital, St. Petersburg is the ultimate embodiment of artistic talent.
