No sooner did the curtain come down on the final of the FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2014 than Sergio Ramos was named best player of the tournament by FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG). With two exceptional performances and two goals under his belt, the Real Madrid and Spain defender was presented with the adidas Golden Ball and the TOYOTA Award. adidas Golden Ball and TOYOTA Award: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) As well as performing masterfully in defence, the centre-back also scored to put Los Blancos ahead in both the semi-final and final. When he was substituted shortly before the end of the final against San Lorenzo, the crowd at the Grand Stade de Marrakech rose as one to honour Ramos with a standing ovation. Winning not only the FIFA Club World Cup 2014 but also the adidas Golden Ball and TOYOTA Award ? the tournament’s highest individual accolade ? provides the perfect end to a successful year for the formidable Real Madrid stalwart.

adidas Silver Ball: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) Whenever the Portuguese superstar was on the ball, he captivated spectators with his fast-paced dribbling, step-overs, technical tricks and excellent awareness. The FIFA Ballon d’Or hopeful consistently drew opposing defenders towards him to open up space for his team-mates and provided a constant threat from set pieces. As well as his individual moves, Ronaldo also had a keen eye for his colleagues’ movement and was able to repeatedly set them up for goalscoring opportunities. He received the adidas Silver Ball in recognition of these strong performances.

adidas Bronze Ball: Ivan Vicelich (Auckland City) There is no doubt that Auckland City were the surprise package of the tournament. Despite arriving in North Africa as rank outsiders, the New Zealanders stormed into the last four, where they suffered a narrow defeat to South American champions San Lorenzo, and ultimately became the first Oceania side to secure third place at a FIFA Club World Cup. Captain Ivan Vicelich played a key role in this success, using his awareness and presence to create an effective link between defence and attack and consistently pushing his team forward. Winning the adidas Bronze Ball is the icing on the cake in what has been a memorable tournament for the 38-year-old.
