Fox has greenlit comedy pilot “
The Grinder
,” starring
Rob Lowe
,
Variety
has learned.
The single-cam laffer will be directed by “New Girl’s” Jake Kasdan, who will also serve as an exec producer with pilot scribes Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (“The D Train”), plus Nicholas Stoller (“Neighbors,” “Get Him to the Greek,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) and Lowe who has been cast as beloved TV lawyer Dean Sanderson, also known as “
The Grinder
.”
The series finds Sanderson (Lowe) at a crossroads in life, after his long-running hit show comes to an end. He decides to move back to his small hometown, under the impression that his experience as a television personality has prepped him to take over his family’s law firm.
The project marks the reunion of Kasdan and Stoller who worked together on “Sex Tape.” Stoller also served as an exec producer on
NBC
’s
“Go Jerrod Go”
pilot, which he created with comedian Jerrod Carmichael.
Lowe is also set to co-star in Sky TV’s dramedy
“Apocalypse”
with Megan Mullally and Jenna Fischer. The 10-episode series will air on
NBC
.
Both Lowe and Kasdan are repped by WME. Paul and Mogel are repped by UTA, Mosaic and Ziffren. Stoller is repped by UTA and Ziffren.
This marks the 16th pilot order for 20th Century Fox TV this cycle, and the 13th for Fox.
