Florence’s Uffizi leading the pack in terms of visitors’ numbers, after the Colosseum and Pompeii

Of the twenty Italian museums that will have a new director, which are the ones that attract the most visitors?

Leading the list is Florence’s Uffizi. The latest numbers available are from 2014, and show that Uffizi Gallery is in third place (1,935,918 visitors), after the Colosseum (6,181,702) and the ruins of Pompeii (2,621,803) in terms of most-visited sites.

Of the 20 with new directors, the Borghese Gallery in Rome is in 9th place nationally, with 508,788 visitors.

The Palazzo Reale, or Royal Palace, in Turin is in 11th place (428,139 visitors), the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan in 21th, with 269,805 visitors.

Among the twenty museums, the one with the least number of visitors is the National Museum of the Bargello, in Florence: in 2014 visitors were 221,715.
