After 14 sessions of round-robin play at the World Junior-B Curling Championships 2017 in Oestersund, Sweden four women’s teams and four men’s teams remain unbeaten.

As well as taking home medals from this championship, the ultimate prize is for the top three teams in both the men’s and the women’s championships to secure a place at the VoIP Defender World Junior Curling Championships in Gangneung, Korea, next month (16-26 February).

In the women’s event Turkey and Poland lead group A, Scotland sit alone at the top of group B with five wins from five and China have pole position in group C with four wins.

Scotland’s most recent result was a 13-2 win over Romania this afternoon, while Poland stole single points in their final two ends to beat Italy 4-3 last night. In the same evening session China beat England 8-1. A stand-out result for Turkey in the round-robin was against Japan, when Yildiz Dilsat’s team posted a score of four points in the seventh end to secure a 6-3.

For the men, it’s Latvia at the top of group A, China and Denmark leading group B and Germany first in group C. China, Denmark and Germany all have four wins so far, while Latvia have three.

China last beat Spain 6-3, while Denmark defeated Hungary 7-4. A score of two in the seventh end was not enough for Turkey to comeback and win against Germany who won 4-3, this morning. Meanwhile, earlier in the round-robin, Latvia, skipped by Janis Bremanis, beat Russia 6-5 after scoring three points in the sixth end to level the game, 5-5 before blanking the seventh and stealing one point in the eighth end.

The round-robin runs through to Sunday 8 January. The men’s and women’s qualification and quarter-final games will then be played on Monday 9 January. The semi-finals will follow on Tuesday 10 January at 09.00 and the medal games will be staged at 14.00 the same day (all times are Central European Time).
