South Korea's top tech company, Samsung Electronics Co. reported no growth in chip sales for the first quarter of 2016. However, U.S. rival, Intel Corp. saw a 8.7% rise, Yonhap reports.
Intel remains in the number 1 spot for the world's top 20 semiconductor suppliers. The combined sales of all the companies saw a decrease of 6% compared to the first quarter of 2015. However, Intel reported growth with a revenue reaching $13.1 billion USD.
Samsung's chip sale growth is lagging with almost no change in revenue compared to last year.
A report from Yonhap suggests that industry experts believe Samsung may have reached its limit in a race to catch up to Intel. Nevertheless, Samsung has lessened the gap in global market shared with Intel since 2012.
