According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, South Korean actor Song Joong Ki, the actor who portrays Captain Yoo Shi Jin of the Alpha Team of the ongoing Asian sensation "Descendants of the Sun" has been appointed by the Korean Tourism Organization to be its promotional ambassador, reported

. He will appear in commercials to promote the country's tourism which will be shot in Taebaek and Jeongseon, former mining cities in Gangwon Province.
Megahit "Descendants of the Sun" is about South Korean peacekeepers and volunteers from the medical field who were sent to Urok, the fictional faraway and war-torn country. The story is a romantic tale between Captain Yoo and Dr. Kang Mo Yeon, played by Song Hye Kyo.
It is the first South Korean drama that airs simultaneously in South Korea and China with consistent high viewership ratings in both countries, giving the boost to the fame of its stars.
The cities actor Song Joong Ki will promote were the main venues of "Descendants of the Sun" which will be developed for tourism so visitors would experience Korean culture, contemporary or traditional, said

. The commercials are set to be airing in early July in China, Japan and Southeast Asian nations, said the ministry.
Actor Song Joong Ki of "Descendants of the Sun" appeared as a guest on "News9" of KBS TV on March 30, as the first ever celebrity to be on the news broadcast in person. He caused commotion among female fans upon arriving at the KBS building for his interview.
