Jeetendra Bio


Ravi Kapoor did his schooling from St Sebastian Goan High School. He got his first big break in Hindi cinema when Shantaram cast him as hero in Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne in 1964.

 

He has done nearly 200 films as hero, a feat matched by just a handful of his peers since the inception of Hindi cinema. He has repeatedly co-starred with the biggest heroines of his time like Rekha (24 films), Hema Malini (12 films), Sridevi (14 films) and Jaya Prada (21 films).

 

Jeetendra, who had started life in a chawl, moved into a palatial house in Colaba in South Mumbai.On October 18, 1974, he married Shobha who was an air hostess with British Airways.

 

His son is actor Tusshar Kapoor and his daughter is Ekta Kapoor, the head of Balaji Telefilms, a very famous TV production house.Jeetendra's immense popularity can be attributed to the fact that he unabashedly catered to the masses in films like Jigri Dost, Humjoli and Caravan. In 1967, he came into the spotlight with the film Farz which went on to become a golden jubilee success.

 

The tee shirt and white shoes he picked up from a retail store for the Mast Baharon Ka Main Aashiq number in Farz, became his trademark.In 2002, he made a brief appearance in one of Ekta Kapoor's films, Kucch To Hai where he appeared alongside his son Tusshar.In 2008, he made an appearance in a popular TV serial, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi as an elderly person.

 

In the 1980s, Jitendra was frequently paired up with Sridevi or Jayapradha for remakes of South Indian films by Rama Rao Tatineni, K. Bapayya and K. Raghavendra Rao; included Justice Chaudhry (1982), Mawaali (1983), Himmatwala (1983), Jaani Dushman, and Tohfa (1984).

He appeared in the TV serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in the role of an old man. He was one of the judges of Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, an Indian dance competition on Sony Entertainment Television. He was also a judge along with Hema Malini of a dancing competition called "Dancing Queen"
