Kim Sang Hyup, a former Cabinet minister and president of Korea University in Seoul, died on Feb. 21 at his home in the South Korean capital. He was 74.

The cause was a heart attack, press reports from Seoul said.

A political scientist and graduate of Tokyo University, Dr. Kim joined the faculty of Korea University in Seoul in 1957 and was its president from 1970 to 1975 and from 1977 to 1982. He was an authority on Mao Zedong, about whom he published several books.

He was Minister of Education in 1962 and Prime Minister in 1982. From 1985 to 1991 he presided over the Korean National Red Cross.

Dr. Kim is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters.
