The Republic of Crimea is 27th in the Russian Federation by population, and the city of Sevastopol is 77th.

Moscow. December 16. IA Krym Media. The population of the Crimean Federal district is 2 million 284.4 thousand people. Such preliminary results of the census in the two new subordinate entities of the Russian Federation were announced by Head of Rosstat Alexander Surinov, reports TASS .

1 million 889.4 thousand people of them live in the Republic of Crimea, 395 thousand people - in Sevastopol.

According to the results of the census which was taking place from October 14 to October 25, the Republic of Crimea is 27th in the Russian Federation by population, and the city of Sevastopol is 77th. Females account for 53.9% of the population of the peninsula, and males ? 46,1%.

The largest cities of Crimea are Simferopol with the population of 350.6 thousand people, Kerch ?147 thousand people, Yalta - 133.6 thousand people, Yevpatoria ? 119.3 thousand people, and Feodosiya ? 101 thousand people.

Head of the Population Statistics Department of Rosstat Svetlana Nikitina noted that the census had been held at the population's "goodwill". "On day of the census beginning, October 14, people queued to the census sites. It was the holiday for the people", ? she said.

S. Nikitina also pointed to low number of refusals to participate in the census ? 0.6%. In the 2010 All-Russian census this figure reached 2%.

According to the Head of Rosstat, the preliminary data obtained today don't allow to draw detailed conclusions about the movement of the population of Crimea yet. In April the statistics are to complete processing of the census results, and in May to report them to the Government of the Russian Federation. By this time the ethnic and family composition, educational level of the population and other characteristics will become known. Experts will be able to compare them to the results of the 2001 All-Ukrainian census. Then the population of the Republic of Crimea was 2 million 24 thousand people, and the population of Sevastopol was 377.2 thousand people.

The census in the Crimean Federal district cost 386 million rubles to the budget. A. Surinov explained that significant means from this sum went for repair of buildings of statistical departments in Sevastopol and Simferopol. It was necessary to buy new computer equipment as the remained Ukrainian equipment didn't meet the requirements of the Russian law on protection of personal information.

7 thousand 200 census takers were involved in the census. "This time we managed to pay rather high remuneration", - added the Head of Rosstat. Census takers received 13.2 thousand rubles for their work. It is 80% of an average monthly salary in Crimea. During the 2010 Russian census the remuneration was 5.5 thousand rubles or a quarter of an average monthly salary.
