Janelle Monae Lands First Big Screen Role

Here’s some good news for Janelle Monae: the Grammy nominated singer-songwriter will be joining the cast of Moonlight . This is be the Mother Android’s first shot at the big screen.

The?full-financed film by A24, Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment company, which also brought to the theaters the critically acclaimed film, 12 Years A Slave .?The film follows the story of a young man as he moves through the life during the “War on Drugs” era in Miami. The film is an adaptation of?the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue.

Monae?will also be joining the cast alongside Naomie Harris, who recently starred in boxing drama, Southpaw with Jake Gyllenhaal and 50 Cent. There’s no word of who the songstress?will play in the film, but it’s safe to say this isn’t a bad introduction to the big screen for the artist.

Moonlight is slated to hit theaters fall 2016.
