Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian urged the United Nations to help stop foreign military interference against Yemen.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian urged the United Nations to help stop foreign military interference against Yemen.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Kuwait on the sidelines of the third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria.

Continuation of military intervention in Yemen will have dangerous consequences for the regional states and will risk the collective security by increasing extremism, Amirabdollahian added.

He condemned the blockade of Yemen and in the meantime arming the terrorist groups in Syria.

Amirabdollahian said that Tehran supports the UN Envoy Staffan Domingo de Mistura's proposals for peaceful resolution of Syria crisis.

Ban Ki-moon for his part thanked Iran's constructive role in Syria and urged political dialogue to end violations in the war-torn region.

Iranian deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs left Tehran for Kuwait on Sunday to participate in the third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria.

The UN secretary general invited foreign ministers of 80 countries to attend the meeting.

On the sidelines of the conference, Amir Abdollahian conferred with delegates of the United Nations, Kuwait and other countries present in the meeting on the latest regional developments.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

Thousands of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.

Tel Aviv, Washington, Ankara and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots to topple President Bashar al-Assad, who is well known in the world for his anti-Israeli stances.
