Tourism in Turks & Caicos

The Turks and Caicos Islands are tropical islands and considered to be part of the Antilles islands. The larger islands are the Caicos Islands and the smaller islands are the Turks Islands, with Cockburn Town the capital city. There are many first-class hotels and luxury resorts on the islands for you to choose from. The islands are very well known for their excellent scuba diving and snorkeling in Providenciales, known as Provo. The coral reefs are colorful and vibrant offering divers an array of sea creatures and black coral to explore. Many consider it to be one of the best islands in the Caribbean to visit. It has some of the most pristine beaches found anywhere in the world.

What is there to do?
Besides, snorkeling or diving, couples come here for romance and families come for the beaches, water sports and recreation. Others just love to bird watch. With 170 known species in the islands, you’ll find a variety of birds, such as: pelicans, flamingos, osprey, blue herons, egrets, frigates, terns, and a variety of other water fowl. Bird enthusiasts also come for the West Indian Whistling-Duck, a rare species that has a unique whistling call.

Turks and Caicos is the only place in the world where you can find a conch farm. You can tour the facilities and actually see where the Caribbean Queen conchs are born and raised to adulthood. You’ll be able to see fresh conch pearls and buy fresh conch. Well-known chefs choose conch from Turks and Caicos for their culinary dishes, considered them to be the best in the world.

Besides snorkeling or diving, many come to the islands to explore via kayak or paddleboards. They actually have glass-bottomed kayaks so you’ll be able to see the brightly colored fish in the shallow waters as you paddle around. The coves are surrounded by mangroves with caves to explore. Stop along one of the coastline for a casual walk to view the wildlife and do a little bird watching.

For a little bit of adventure, go deep sea fishing or swim with the Sting Rays. Sail around the island and enjoy a beautiful and romantic sunset.

Places to Visit

Grace Bay is at the top of the list. It’s where you’ll find one of the most beautiful beaches you’ve ever seen. Stroll along the white powered beach and take in the beautiful blue Caribbean water. Since waves are low, it’s a great place to swim. There are many nice restaurants and shops to bring home your souvenirs.

You should also visit Our Lady of Divine Providence as it is a beautiful Catholic church in Provo. The stained glass, woodwork, and marble are phenomenal. It would be a wonderful to have a wedding ceremony.

If you came to dive or snorkel, then a visit to Smith’s Reef is a must! Take a tour boat out and enjoy the beautiful wildlife underneath the sea.
