Chicago Fire rookie Harry Shipp is up for two MLS postseason awards, the league announced Thursday.
The 23-year-old former Notre Dame captain is among three finalists for MLS Rookie of the Year as well as Individual Fair Play awards.
Winners will be announced next Monday.
Shipp, a Fire homegrown player and Lake Forest native, had seven goals and six assists in 2014. He’s the seventh Fire player nominated for top rookie honors and would be the fourth to win.
FC Dallas forward Tesho Akindele and D.C. United defender Steven Birnbaum are other finalists, as determined by votes from national media members, players, technical staffs and front offices.
Former Fire defender Austin Berry was the most recent top rookie award winner in 2012. Damini Ralph (2003) and Carlos Bocanegra (2000) were also previous honorees.
Shipp, Portland’s Darlington Nagbe and Columbus’ Michael Parkhurst are finalists for the fair play award, based on objective criteria of fouls committed, cards received and game and minutes play. Sportsmanlike behavior is also considered.
