Introduction by Hulusi Kaymakli, Lieutenant General (ret.) Turkish Air Force

This book written by my friend Ole Nikolajsen is the product of enduring research and hard work. It covers an extremely long period of time starting with the initial years after the foundation of the Turkish Air Force, all the way up to the present day.

It is a product of lenghty research because the author has meticulously charted the important developments, milestones, and events in the formation and growth of the Turkish military aviation within this 90-year period and detaiiled them in this book. Moreover, he has also included the aviation activities of the Army, Gendarmerie and Police forces, ensuring the completeness of this book and enhancing it even further.

This book is the product of hard work because Ole Niklajsen has executed most of his research abroad coping with various difficulties that living in an unfamiliar country entails. He deserves our appreciation for pursuing his goal and delivering such a detailed and accurate review on an ever changing and developing field such as aviation in a country whose language and culture were entirely new to him, notwithstanding the fact that he received due assistance and support.

I would like to express my gratitude to Ole Nikolajsen for having created this comprehensive work which is significant not only for the Turkish military aviation but also for the World's aviation, by overcoming both the research and cultural difficulties.

I believe this book paints a clear picture of the various development stages and major advances in aircraft types the Turkish Air Force went through over the past years. Presently, it can be ranked among the most modern air forces deploying state of the art aircraft and technology, a high degree of training and professionalism and the ability to deploy its force over the world. The path to its current elite position is well worth readning about for both researchers and everyone else involved in aviation matters.

I sincerely congratulate Ole Nikolajsen for successfully supplying the world's aviation literature with the rich treasure of Turkish Military Aviation by his book entitled "Turkish Military Aircraft".
