RUSSIAN EXHIBITORS cont'd

Models of the Kamov Ka-31 with the Oko radar, the Ka-52 Alligator and the Ka-32A11BC multipurpose helicopter. The Indian Navy will take delivery of no less than 6 Ka-31s for AEW purposes. Aero India 1998 saw the appearance of the Ka-50 "Black shark" which at the time, seemed as if it had been selected by the IAF who put out a requirement for a new helicopter gunship. However, at present, there are no such plans to acquire the machine.

Ural optical and Electromechanical plant's SAPSAN-E optronic pod. The 250 kg, 360x3000 mm pod consists of a FoV stabilization system, a TV (thermal imaging) channel, a ranging channel, a laser designation channel, electronic units and a thermal control system. Operating temperature is between -60? and +50? C.

OTHER EXHIBITORS

STN Atlas's new laser based visual system and simulator for the MiG-29 features a periodically updated geographic database based on actual satellite imagery. The german company is the prime contractor for the development of Eurofighter and Eurocopter simulators. The cockpit and weapon control system algorithms were provided by RAC MiG. The simulator seems out of place as it should really be in the European section. The 9-12/13's setup may not be a modern glass cockpit but it is simplistic and easy to adapt to.

Reutech defense systems of South Africa seem to have changed their marketing line from "Our weapons, Your advantage" to "Our technology, Your advantage".

Though Embraer flew their 'Legacy' business jet to Aero India, their stand was virtually empty except for small models of the AMX-T and the EMB-145SA AEW. The AMX-T has secured a 12 aircraft order from Venezuela to replace the T-2 Buckeye. This version would have the Elta EL/M-2032 radar instead of the original SCP-01. The AMX-T would be the only dedicated advanced jet trainer to be equipped with radar. Despite this, it is cheaper than the BAe Hawk.
