"Community" knows its fan base very well, and this season, they've given the fans what they want: More Abed. Thursday night's episode was no exception.
Hilary Duff guest-starred as one of several "mean girls" at Greendale Community College, constantly tormenting Britta, Shirley and Annie... until they learned that the too-observant Abed has a gift for insults.
Abed finds his inner mean girl, or at least a mean girl version of Robocop. The insults flew so fast, it was virtually impossible to catch all of them without rewinding your DVR.
Duff's character facing off with Abed
was a wonder to behold.
Even funnier than Abed's insults were (no longer Senor) Chang's reactions to them. Though Chang's reactions to everything are consistently funny.
While all this was going on, Troy and Jeff found a secret place to commune with nature and reach a place of inner peace. But instead of yoga it involved a cool trampoline, protected by a groundskeeper played by Matt Walsh (who, between "Due Date" and "Outsourced" is everywhere these days). When asked who was with them, Troy responded, "If we say nobody, are you going to stab us with your bush scissors?"
Pierce was jealous of their laid-back attitude and demanded to locate their secret place. It turned out Troy was right to be suspicious because the now-fired groundskeeper was a racist. And the remote-controlled helicopter Pierce used to find them was piloted by a tiny Andy Dick. (Like many episodes of "Community," you pretty much had to be there.)
This episode had it all: great guest stars, sharp (at times, demented) dialogue, and some truly weird moments. All the more reason why I'm pleased as punch that the show will reportedly
get a 24 episode season
.
